Mosquito Pool Tests Positive for West Nile Virus

Joseph Coupal - Friday, June 29, 2012
While there have been no reported cases of West Nile Virus in Boston this year, a Roslindale mosquito pool has tested positive for the virus.   Public Health Commission officials believe that the high heat and heavy rain are contributing factors to seeing the virus earlier than in previous years. To avoid mosquito bites, people should take extra precaution to wear more clothing with long sleeves and long pants, and using insect repellant while outdoors from dusk until dawn.  To prevent breeding, the board advises people to “turn over unused flower pots, wheelbarrows, garbage cans, remove debris that can clog gutters and trap water, and cover swimming pools when not in use.”
