Dog Bite? What Dog Owners Should Know

Joseph Coupal - Saturday, June 09, 2012
In the United States, dogs bite over 4 million people annually.  Although only about a dozen are fatal, about 800,000 do require medical attention.  Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 140 Section 155 makes Massachusetts a strict liability state, so a dog owner is strictly liable for dog bites unless the victim was trespassing, teasing, tormenting or abusing the dog.  A minor under the age of 7 is presumed to have not been committing a trespass or tort. If a dog has bitten you, contact Brooks & Crowley to see what your options are.
