Appeal To Follow Relicensing of Nuclear Plant

The state has filed an appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals in Boston regarding a decision by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to renew the operating license of the Pilgrim operating plant in Plymouth, MA for another 20 years.   The review period for renewal was 6 ½ years, which the commission claims is the longest in the agency’s history.  The original operating license expired on June 8th.  Attorney General Martha Coakley believes that the commission abused its discretion by relicensing the plant without fully considering the safety issues at bar raised by the nuclear plant accident in Japan last summer.  Link to full story here
